If you want to be more confident of your smile, you must first learn how to maintain the health of your gums. Your oral hygiene, diet and lifestyle have an effect on the total condition of your gums. By knowing the proper way to care for your gums, you can prevent the pain and expense of treating gum diseases.

Flossing your teeth is beneficial to having good oral health, any dentist will surely tell you the same or confirm that fact. We often ask such questions on how often we should floss? Is flossing necessary to be part of everyday’s life?

Bacteria tend to escape when doing toothbrushing by hiding in the tiny spaces in between the teeth and it can only be removed when we do flossing. Brushing without flossing it like washing only 65% of our oral cavity. The other 35% remains dirty.

The goal of brushing and flossing is to minimize the level or the number of bacteria which harbor the mouth. There are millions of microscopic bacteria that use the mouth as their home and use food particles that are left in between the teeth as their source of energy.

The following are some instructions on proper oral care:

– Choose a soft-bristled toothbrush every after meals. Soft bristled toothbrushes are gently to your gums and minimize the incidence of gum bleeding or gum trauma.

– Make it a habit to floss daily. Food particles trapped in between your teeth and gums can become a serious problem if we left them unattended for long.

– Rinse your mouth after flossing. Mouthwash with fluoride is also highly recommended. This helps debris to wash out completely. `

– Avoid eating foods rich in sugars and starches. They contain many harmful acids that can cause tooth decay. Brisk a cup of green tea instead of soda.

– Visit your dentist at least twice or according to your dentist or dental hygienist’s instructions. Seek for advice on what are the necessary treatments that you need to maintain a healthy oral cavity.

Use these tips and surely you will improve your dental health more. You will not only have a healthy mouth but also you will be stress-free and can help prevent costly treatment.
